Rear View Mirror Syndrome

“Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it,” said  Winston Churchill’s which means that One should learn from their past mistakes, and try not to repeat them in the future.  When we continuously keep analyzing our past to make a future decision can cost our whole life.  We should not keep dwelling in the past.  Validating from the past for every action we supposed to make in the present or future becomes self-limiting. This rear view syndrome.

We know the use of our rearview mirror in our vehicle, it is for seeing our rear side to drive safely. In life, it is not necessary to keep viewing our rear side which is our past. When we constantly analyze our past, we fail to focus on our future. It is often required to let go of your past and concentrate on what is up there for you in present and what can you do in the future. This continuous sense of plaguing over the past deeds and actions to take our future decision is termed as Rearview mirror syndrome.

Our subconscious minds are constantly reliving and recreating our past in the present. Rather than seeing ourselves as constantly-changing beings, we believe that who we were is who we are, limiting our potential in the present based on a failure in the past. It’s hard to see life in any other way than it’s always been, as 95% of people’s thoughts on a day to day basis are the same thoughts we’ve had many days before. We carry too many negative feelings like stress, anxiety, worry, and fear from yesterday to take its space in our today.

It is not carved in stone that if you failed in your past in any of your exams, relationships, or your job you fail in the future too. But if you continuously fear to take decisions in the future analyzing your past you would have to pay all your life.

So, it is advised not to determine whether or not we’re capable of accomplishing something, we look in our rearview mirror to give us the answer. Rather transcend your limitations by stopping those glances in the mirror.

One great way to begin focusing on your present self rather than your past is to talk to yourself in a way that inspires confidence. Not only are these things possible, but you’re committed and capable of making it so. It’s not necessary to believe it at first, and it might feel uncomfortable and make you want to resist. With repetition, however, your subconscious will begin to take in those positive affirmations.

It’s important not to place limits on your life, but to think big and think about what you really want out of your life. You can’t fail if you’re learning, growing, and improving. Where you go in life depends on the person you choose to be in the present, starting now.

Don’t place unnecessary limitations on what you want for your life. Get clear on what you truly want, condition yourself to the belief that it’s possible by focusing on and affirming it every day, and then consistently move in the direction of your vision until it becomes your reality.

All of us have “rear view mirror syndrome “. We tend to judge our future possibilities through our past experiences. DON’T DO IT! Yes, you need to learn from the past but don’t limit yourself because of it. LOOK FORWARD to the Future which is full of new hopes and new possibilities.

One life. Live Boundless
