Business Lesson – To Trust or not?

You will meet a lot of folks who will tell you that they would like to conduct business a certain way – they will emphasize on full disclosures, 100% transparency, fairness in financial terms, full info on numbers, etc.

And once you want to take the relationship ahead based on those very features, they may use the information against you or your interests.

Trust must be earned, not given freely

It is critical to gauge the personality before you decide which way to negotiate. People like to feel lofty about themselves and be preachy on how fair business or relationships needs to be conducted, but reality may be starkly different. Hypocrisy isn’t very evident to most when it comes from themselves.

Open your cards completely only when you understand the other person and their position completely. Trust people but gauge if they are trustworthy first. A little skepticism never hurts.

Also, if the stakes are high, let the other person earn your trust rather than you giving it away for free.

Frankly, the above lessons apply equally well to all life scenarios.

Trust must be earned, not given freely
