What is the Koo app?

Koo is the latest micro-blogging platform in India and it is promoted as the best alternative to Twitter for Indian users in support of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

Who is behind this Startup

The startup’s co-founder and CEO is  Aprameya Radhakrishna, he graduated in electronics and communication from the National Institute of technology Karanataka and started his career at India’s most valued IT firm Infosys in the year 2003, later in 2006 he joined IIM Ahmadabad and completed his MBA.

Also, Aprameya Radhakrishna along with Mayank Bidwatka founded online cab booking service TaxiForSure, which was sold to Ola Cabs. Before getting popular with Koo, its parent company — Bombinate Technologies Pvt Ltd — launched and is operating the Indian version of Quora called Vokal.

According to data sourced from Crunchbase, the company raised Series A funding in 2018 from a clutch of investors including Blume Ventures, Kalaari Capital, and Accel Partners India.

But the popularity of the KOO app has brought him under the limelight. This app was launched in early 2020, its participation and the subsequent winning of the government’s Atmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge brought it under the limelight as an outcome of the Atmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge, this app was talked about by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat address.

After the Koo being popular and promoted by Indian Politics as Atma Nirbhar Bharat, there has been a surge in downloading of this app. Various politicians and Bollywood celebrities like Kangna Ranaut have mentioned that they are on KOO now and asked their followers to join KOO.

It will be a matter of interest, to see what will be the fate of this Indian app, will it create a boom like OLA and OYO, or will be a mediocre app, just like few other Indian apps which were promoted after the ban of many Chinese apps by the Indian Government.
