Have you heard of anything like organic onions? I am sure onions are not sold as such tagged with organic terms. If it is most of us will try using organic onions in our diet. So organic food- Reality or Buzz?
So what I want to convey is these today’s we are so obsessed with the terms organic, whether it be fashion or food. In no way organic food is bad, but as we look back to history,
India was a land where we cultivated everything organic, limiting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. As sciences advanced we came up with this chemical utilization stuff.
A decade ago, if someone used organic or homegrown veggies, they were considered poor, who can’t afford vegetables and fruits from the supermarket, and If someone had suggested consuming organic food we would have just ignored their advice.
This organic movement has been around for some time now and organic products have been making their presence felt increasingly over the last few years as people link it with a healthy diet and weight-loss food.
Organic food should not be mistaken with food which would help you you’re your calories, it is something which is rich in vitamins and other nutritional property which would be otherwise have been degraded. If chemical fertilizers were used in them. So If you look or quality over quantity goes up for these foods.
Is organic have just become a fad?
Is ‘organic’ just another marketing trick or another fad diet? Can we not relate the consumption of organic food with a drop in the size of our waistline? Let us be clear on one aspect that “organic” is not a form of diet.
Organic food advocates believe that these farming practices produce better fruits and veggies. Here are some of the benefits of going organic:
- It gives better nutrition. Studies have shown that organic produce includes higher levels of vitamin C, certain minerals, and antioxidants.
- Safety. Compared with conventionally grown produce, organically grown produce have lower levels of chemicals, One study found that organically grown crops had about one-third as many pesticide residues as conventionally grown versions.
- It tastes better. Organic food tastes better because it is often (but not always) produced on smaller farms near where it is sold and it doesn’t contain preservatives to make it last longer.
- Safer for the environment. Organic produce will lower chemical pollution, conserve water, reduce soil erosion, increase soil fertility.
As we read the benefits, we know organic produces are heavier on our pockets, it is not necessary that you buy every fruit or veggies which are completely organic, though it is a myth, being a biotechnology student,
I can assure you that organic produce is very perishable, so they require chemical preservation, which is under safety guidelines. So don’t fall or advertisements claiming their product to 100 percent organic.
You need to have a balance between organic food and regular food. Don’t completely fall for, this organic façade happening these days, chose your food wisely, and practice healthy eating habits.
