BTS, the K-pop boy band group is taking over the world. BTS in Korean means ‘Bangtan Sonyeondon’ (Bullet-Proof Boys). They debuted in 2013 and have been a storm through their music, dance, and style. They are now the biggest boy band in the world. They have a huge fanbase all around the world. They are using their influence to make the world a better place.
I got introduced to BTS through a YouTube video. Their music was so catchy and full of energy, in fact not knowing the language wasn’t even a barrier to enjoy their music. Then it was time to do deeper research about them through posts, articles and videos. Initially it was hard for me to differentiate their faces and remember their names. It’s funny to admit that I kind of revised their names and faces and I became more curious to know about them.
During my BTS research, I watched all their performances, listening them even when they spoke Korean, some videos had subtitles and the ones which didn’t hardly bothered me. It was like just one video I started with but ended up watching many. The members are so funny and relatable. There was a time when I wanted to learn the Korean culture and even tried learning the Korean language; that is the power of good influence.
I used to continuously discuss about them with friends and family. To the point that they started saying – ‘No more BTS discussions’. There comes the struggle. Being a BTS fan your family & friends consider you to be out of your mind . For them they are girls and Chinese. They asked me whether Bollywood and English song were not enough to keep you entertained. To them it was noise.
Let’s Know BTS
They have 7 members – RM, Suga, J-hope, Jin, Jungook, V, and Jimin. The group leader is Kim Namjoon (RM) and he is the only group member who knows English well. Suga, J Hope, and RM are rappers in the group and others are vocalists managed by South Korean entertainment company Big Hit Entertainment.
- After Beatles they are first to earn three no. 1 albums in less than a year.
- Each song of BTS’s breaks several records despite the fact they are non-English songs
- Song ‘Boy with luv‘ was the highest viewed song on YouTube in 2019 in just a single day.
- Their current song, Dynamite, also broke all their earlier records and is currently on no 1 position on Billboard music charts hot100.
- They gave a speech at the UN
- They were on the cover of Time magazine.
- They have the most dedicated fanbase called ARMY.
Reasons for BTS’s success
Ever since they debuted, they never switched genres or changed pace. They were consistent and members of band are very hard working. They inspire youth with messages through their song about self-love, bullying, mental health, elitism and not shying away to speak about the pain felt by today’s generation. Their ability to be relatable and humble while still being entertaining is rare.
Social Activism
They run different campaigns like LOVE MYSELF to end violence, SPEAK YOURSELF speech to empower youth, DEAR CLASS of 2020 to encourage grads, CLEAN ENERGY to encourage sustainable future initiative to make millions happy.
In one of their songs PIED PIPER they wanted their fans to go and study and stop spending too much time on them.
Controversies Of BTS k-pop boy band
There is some controversy around they wearing makeup and giving wrong impression to other boys thereby making them sissy pants. Many believe that they shouldn’t be promoting these effeminate figures. Countries like China feel these idols are creating masculinity crisis.
In my opinion wearing makeup is a choice and why they are called girls is because they have a huge female fanbase. The fact is that East Asian’s have such soft masculine personality. It is in their genes. This definitely does not justify that they are in anyway causing any masculinity crisis.
I LOVE BTS k-pop boy band
With these K-POP IDOLS, fans want to be a part of their lifestyle, because they are not mere singers and BTS in that matter is connected so personally with their Fandom ‘ARMY’s’ through various social media platforms. Being so thankful to their fans have helped them in having such a loyal and a huge fanbase.
BTS’ group leader Kim Namjoon (RM) at the UN speech said – “No matter who you are, where you are from, your skin color, or gender identity: Speak Yourself”.
I definitely believe BTS k-pop boy band to be the Next Generation Leaders.
