We are eager to receive, but do not give easily! And when we get, we always desire more! Especially wealth and money! The more we have the more we want! These dictate our wishes and desires and slowly make us slaves of wealth! We lose our freedom and values for din money! Remember Avarice makes you a slave.
Here is a short story mentioned how Avarice makes you a slave, which we may have read in our school days,
The story is told of a farmer, who had a poor crop. Suddenly he saw a cobra, thin and emaciated! He placed a little milk he had in a saucer The cobra drank all the milk and left a piece of gold. The farmer was very happy. The farmer fed the cobra everyday. The cobra always left the piece of gold. Till one day avarice got the better of him! Why not place two saucers of milk and get two pieces of gold? He did just that!
The cobra drank the milk to its heart’s content. Then it said, “You were greedy for gold and put two saucers of milk! I too drank out of greediness, but the power of producing the gold has gone!”
What do we learn from this story?
It’s pretty clear, that the farmer was in the greed of money (gold) he could not think of any of his values and hard work in front of his greed towards gold. . He was blinded by it and in return to too much of greed, he did something which he should not have.
So one should know that the belief that stability or enough money will buy you your freedom is a lie. Freedom is a state of mind.
The first course of correction is to be in control, of your money. Make sure your life is covered. Then in every decision ask yourself, does this light you up or feel like a drag? What feels heavy try and change. Hard if it’s your job, but at least find a way to shift your mindset about it. Don’t do anything unethical out of greed and wanting more from life.
To sum up, I totally agree with the idea that people always want something more or something different. Their greed and egos, if not controlled, can cause serious problems not only for themselves but for the whole human society.
