Shri-Ram overheard one of his subjects commenting about why Shri-Ram made Mata Sita the queen even though Ravan had kept her in Lanka for many days after her kidnap. Many explanations exist, but the end result was that Shri-Ram left Sita and ordered her to leave Ayodhya and go to Valmiki’s ashram. Well, we all know that epic story.
Shri-Ram couldn’t ignore public opinion. He was the king, and this didn’t set a good example. (though a general explanation for everything in Ramayan is that it was all Shri-Ram’s ‘Leela’)
The lesson for us in this Leela is very evident.
In our simple lives, we must know when to hear some advice, and when to shut our ears to the noise.
The majority opinion (or public opinion) isn’t always the best opinion. The application of our own mind is irreplaceable.
