In today’s society, If we go shopping or even buying a cup of tea, we are provided with a lot of options, but do you know what is the place where we still don’t get more options? choosing anything apart from a doctor-engineer as a career choice.
It’s choosing your career for this generally you are provided with either,doctor-engineer career these two initiatives. Either you be a Doctor or an Engineer as a career.
Indian parents tend to gravitate towards safer options, for them these two are the safest.
And this how the journey becomes, you pass out from So, let’s start with how students enter to 10 standard and now you are forced to take science, let me clear not everyone is forced there are ones who are passionate too.
Once you pass out class 12 you are giving either jee or Neet. Also, the fact can’t be denied not everyone makes it through JEE and NEET. Then comes Private colleges in the picture, engineering still bearable by parents as it doesn’t cause as hefty as private medical colleges. So If you are from a financially secure family you might get into a private college. This is the story happening in India.
After that, engineers would try for companies, & doctors would either work for hospitals or start their own clinic. And continue their lives. Nobody knows that they get satisfaction by just labeling ‘doctor’ or ‘engineer’ in front of their names, & nothing else, but their parents are certainly filled with pride, by saying that their children are now a doctor or engineer.
Also what society thinks is If you are not a doctor or engineer, you did not work hard, and you are weak in your studies. You don’t have the guts to ace the enormous syllabus, you ear faliures. I just don’t understand the thought behind it.
Engineering & medicine have all the hardships, failures, successes, rewards, discouragements, goods, bads that other fields have. There’s simply no difference, if you’re really talented in a particular field you are equally putting effort as a medical student, you can leave marks in that field. If you’re not talented in a field, then whatever you do, you’d not be able to do anything special for that field.
There may have some stereotypes about choosing your career options decades ago. But today there’s really nothing. The world is giving scope to each & every field. And to be honest, today no one gives interest in what your profession is, but everyone gives interest in your skills & what you can do with them since skills matter the most these days. Whether you’re a doctor or an engineer or an artist or a businessman or a politician or a social worker or a sportsperson or an actor or a journalist or whatever you’re, it’s not of any interest. The interest is in what you can do with all these.
What you want to become in life should solely be your choice. Therefore always choose to become what you want from your life. It should not be affected by others. If you want to become an astronaut, go with your dream. If you want to be a writer, go. Never hesitate of doing something you know, is right for you, & you want to do with all your heart will pay you good results.
These are some of the things that came to my mind, which can be done. There may be more things which we can do. Appreciate people who chose other career options, since we have created this rigid situation and we have to make it flexible by appreciating and praising those who do not choose the conventional careers for them. But the thing which can really affect the system is education.
Our education system should teach children to choose professions according to their talents, instead of choosing some common professions. Parents & teachers should take care of the fact that children explore themselves, & choose to become whatever they want to. Any ill thinking of society shouldn’t prevent them from doing so.
You can choose what you want to. The choices of life are not like competitive exams, where if one answer is wrong, one mark would go. But these are something which affects us lifelong.
If you choose something incorrect because others are saying to do, you may need to suffer for the whole life. Again, I’m saying at the end, to prevent misunderstanding, that the choice of becoming an engineer or doctor is never bad. Instead, they’re excellent if you want to be one. But the bad lies in the fact that without wanting everyone is rushing towards becoming doctor & engineer.
As it is said follow your Passion.
